The U.S., Korea and China comprise the three biggest markets for the sedan, accounting for 90 percent of current Malibu sales. The Malibu is becoming a popular car on a global scale as Chevrolet sells it in more than 25 markets around the world.

“Some people are buying their very first Malibu today and others may have driven a Malibu from a different generation as their first car,” Alan Batey, global Chevrolet president, said. “It is a car that has resonated with customers for more than half a century.”

Chevrolet Malibu History

Space and efficiency were the names of the game for the Malibu in the early ‘60s. The newest Chevy vehicle, along with the Chevelle and 300 at that time, was named after the California city. The Malibu was one of the first mid-size vehicles called at that time “intermediate.”

When the Malibu first hit the scene in ’64, the most common form of customer service was the owners manual and maybe a trip to the dealer. Now, the ninth-generation Chevrolet Malibu customers can contact their dealer, Chevrolet service, support and more 24/7 thanks to email, social media and more.

Latest Malibu lighter, more efficient

The 2016 Malibu is lighter and longer than the 2015 model year, and the standard 1.5-liter turbo powertrain is projected to offer 37 mpg on the highway. An available hybrid option works off the current Volt format and is expected to offer 47 mpg combined.

For fifty-one years, Chevrolet has offered a quality sedan — formerly a coupe, convertible and wagon — to families around the U.S.A. and the world. Fans of this classic nameplate can check out the latest ones in our inventory at Jim Butler Chevrolet in Fenton, MO, the No. 1 Chevy dealer in Missouri.
