Updated 2016 Malibu Stakes Claim in Competitive Mid-size Sedan Segment

By | 2016 Malibu | No Comments

New model-year Malibu improves in areas such as leg room, ride and handling to compete against other sedans

A lot of focus on the new Chevrolet models for 2016 was aimed on the redesigned Camaro. However, another Chevrolet mainstay that has been around since the ‘60s also underwent updates and redesigns for the 2016 model year, and it aims to make its mark in the ultra-competitive mid-size sedan market.

JBC-2016 MalibuReviewers of the new 2016 Malibu have gone as far as to call it the best mid-size sedan from Chevrolet they’ve experienced (GM Authority). That’s quite a compliment for a nameplate that started in 1964. Exterior updates include a longer wheelbase longer overall length. The 2016 Malibu also shed weight like the new Camaro — the sedan is 300 pounds lighter than the 2015 Malibu.

The lighter weight creates a more responsive and smoother driving experience for new 2016 Malibu owners near St. Louis. In fact, according to Chevrolet, the 2016 Malibu is the lightest vehicle in the segment (curb weight of 3,086 pounds) as well as the longest at more than 3,500 inches.

Inside, the 2016 Malibu has added 1.3 inches of leg room to create a more comfortable Chevy experience for the passengers sitting in the rear seats. The overall design of the interior feels uniquely like a Chevrolet and sets itself apart from the segment’s competitors.

The available 4G LTE Wi-Fi makes the Malibu a mobile hotspot, and the new smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will make use of your smartphone more efficient and safer. The new 1.5-liter turbrocharged EcoTec engine is the base offering, outputting up to 160 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. Get up to 31 mpg combined and 37 mpg on the highway, making the Malibu a great choice for a daily driver. Need a bit more power? Check out the 2.0-L turbo engine with up to 250 horsepower!

Pedestrian Avoidance Safety Technology Planned for 2016 Malibu

By | 2016 Malibu | No Comments

Latest active safety feature uses only camera and software to help keep overall costs down on new Chevy

Technological features once found on only luxury vehicles are making their way to more and more brands, and the latest addition the 2016 Chevy Malibu strengthens the brand’s active safety features.

JBC 2016 Malibu Pedestrian Avoidance safetyThe 2016 Malibu’s Pedestrian Avoidance System helps works to detect any pedestrians that may run out in front of the Malibu. The new software, when detecting a potential collision, can alert “the driver and, if necessary, automatically applies the brakes to help reduce the collision’s severity or avoid the collision” according to General Motors.

What sets the Pedestrian Avoidance technology apart from other active safety features on the redesigned Malibu is how it works. Instead of using sensors or radars, it utilizes only a camera and the software. The camera mounted next to the rearview camera to help with Lane Keep Assist is used for Pedestrian Avoidance. This, in turn, will help to keep the overall costs down as it uses current technology already available with an updated code.

“The camera technology allows us to put it on more vehicles,” John Capp, GM’s director of global vehicle safety, said to AutoNews. “We can offer technologies that … you had to step up to a radar package that maybe not all customers would want.”

Goals for the technology are the format it to detect speedy cyclists as well. Other available crash avoidance technology for 2016 Chevrolet models include Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Forward Collision Alert. General Motors has been setting up special tracks at their testing facility to improve the active safety features for 2016 Chevys.

Hybrid Chevy sedan to be manufactured in US, go on sale next spring

2016 Malibu three q shot Jim Butler ChevroletUnsurpassed fuel economy is the name of the game for the new 2016 Malibu hybrid. According to General Motors President Dan Ammann, the hybrid sedan can produce a combined 47 mpg — 45 mpg highway, 48 mpg city — according to GM’s estimates. The announcement was made before the 2016 Malibu’s reveal at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS).

The hybrid Malibus are slated to hit Jim Butler Chevrolet in St. Louis — Missouri’s No.1 Chevy dealer — in spring 2016.

Taking a Cue from the Chevy Volt

The new 2016 Malibu finds its power from a two-motor drive unit slightly modified from the 2016 Chevy Volt. This drive unit is mated with a direct-injection 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine. It provides additional power to assist the engine during acceleration, for a total system power of 182 horsepower.

2016 Malibu front shot Jim Butler ChevroletAn 80-cell, 1.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack brings power to the 2016 Malibu’s hybrid system. The advanced lithium-ion based chemistry powers the Malibu hybrid at up to 55 mph on electricity alone. The gasoline-powered engine will automatically come on at higher speeds when necessary to provide additional power.

But it’s not Volt’s drive unit that inspired the design of the 2016 Malibu hybrid. The hybrid Chevrolet sedan shares power electronics and a blended regenerative braking system. This provides maximum kinetic energy recovery during braking to be stored into the battery system to assist in maintaining the charge.

The Malibu Hybrid will be manufactured in Kansas City, Kans., at the Fairfax Assembly plant with globally sourced parts. No announcement has yet been made on when the 2016 Malibu hybrids will begin production, but they are on target for a sale date of spring 2016.

2016 Malibu Technology Encourages Safe Driving for Teens

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Teens are more likely to be involved in fatal crashes nearly three times more often than drivers age 20 and older according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The 2016 Malibu aims to cut these numbers with a new system called Teen Driver. These 2016 Malibus with the Teen Driver system are set to hit Jim Butler Chevrolet in St. Louis by the end of 2015.

“We developed this system so parents could use it as a teaching tool with their kids,” MaryAnn Beebe, GM safety engineer, said. “They can discuss and reinforce safe driving habits. As a mother of two, I know anything that has the potential of keeping one’s family safer is of great value to parents.”

How Teen Driver Works

Parents can keep an eye on their teen drivers even when they are not in the car with their children thanks to Teen Driver. According to Chevrolet, Teen Driver supports safe driving habits by muting the audio of the radio or any device paired with the vehicle when front seat occupants aren’t wearing their safety belts, and it gives audible and visual warnings when the vehicle is traveling faster than preset speeds.

This built-in system is an industry-first and lets parents view on a display how their teenager drove the 2016 Malibu. To use Teen Driver, a parent needs to enable the feature by creating a PIN in the Settings menu of their available MyLink system. This then allows them to register their teen’s key fob. The system’s settings are turned on only to registered key fobs.

  • Forward Collision Braking events (if equipped)

Promoting Safe Teen Driving

If your 2016 Malibu has the following available safety features, Teen Driver can automatically turn them on and keep them from manually being turned off:

  • Stability Control
  • Front and Rear Park Assist
  • Side Blind Zone Alert
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Daytime Running Lamps / Automatic Light Control
  • Forward Collision Braking
  • Traction Control
  • Front Pedestrian Braking

The system will be standard on the Premier trim and optional on LT models of the 2016 Malibu if equipped with the Convenience Package and up-level radio. The 2016 Malibu is set to debut on April 1 at the New York International Auto Show.
