GM-estimated 48 mpg city, 47 mpg combined on next-generation hybrid to hit St. Louis Chevy dealers this spring

With this play, Chevrolet has shown its commitment to offering more mainstream hybrids. A more defined release date for the 2016 Malibu has been announced for spring 2016. The starting price of the next-generation hybrid from the bowtie brand is slated to be $28,645 (minus tax, tag and title) and offer a head-turning 48 mpg city.

JBC-2016 Malibu hybridThe mpg rating is better than 2016 midsize hybrid sedan according to AutoBlog. The engineers at Chevrolet have used what they’ve learned from the hybrid-exclusive Volt and applied it to the ground-breaking Malibu hybrid. Since its reveal at the 2015 New York International Auto Show, hybrid car fans near St. Louis have been waiting for the 2016 Malibu Hybrid to hit dealers such as Jim Butler Chevrolet.

“The Malibu leverages knowledge and technology directly from the second-generation Chevrolet Volt,” Steve Majoros, marketing director of Chevrolet Cars and Crossovers, said. “By leveraging technology, we are broadening our level of expertise and lessons learned to bring consumers a world-class hybrid.”

This next-gen hybrid sedan from Chevrolet is powered by a combination of a 1.8-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor with a 1.5-kWh lithium-ion battery. The two of these in tandem produce up to 182 horsepower, competitive with both Toyota and Ford’s midsize hybrids.

Standard features on the 2016 hybrid include Chevrolet MyLink Radio with 7-inch diagonal color touch screen, 10 airbags, cruise control and push-button start with passive entry. Available safety features include Lane Keep Assist, Front Pedestrian Braking and the industry-first Teen Driver. Other technologies available on the 2016 Malibu Hybrid include a rear-vision camera and smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Updated 2016 Malibu Stakes Claim in Competitive Mid-size Sedan Segment

By | 2016 Malibu | No Comments

New model-year Malibu improves in areas such as leg room, ride and handling to compete against other sedans

A lot of focus on the new Chevrolet models for 2016 was aimed on the redesigned Camaro. However, another Chevrolet mainstay that has been around since the ‘60s also underwent updates and redesigns for the 2016 model year, and it aims to make its mark in the ultra-competitive mid-size sedan market.

JBC-2016 MalibuReviewers of the new 2016 Malibu have gone as far as to call it the best mid-size sedan from Chevrolet they’ve experienced (GM Authority). That’s quite a compliment for a nameplate that started in 1964. Exterior updates include a longer wheelbase longer overall length. The 2016 Malibu also shed weight like the new Camaro — the sedan is 300 pounds lighter than the 2015 Malibu.

The lighter weight creates a more responsive and smoother driving experience for new 2016 Malibu owners near St. Louis. In fact, according to Chevrolet, the 2016 Malibu is the lightest vehicle in the segment (curb weight of 3,086 pounds) as well as the longest at more than 3,500 inches.

Inside, the 2016 Malibu has added 1.3 inches of leg room to create a more comfortable Chevy experience for the passengers sitting in the rear seats. The overall design of the interior feels uniquely like a Chevrolet and sets itself apart from the segment’s competitors.

The available 4G LTE Wi-Fi makes the Malibu a mobile hotspot, and the new smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will make use of your smartphone more efficient and safer. The new 1.5-liter turbrocharged EcoTec engine is the base offering, outputting up to 160 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. Chevy Produces 10 Millionth Malibu as 2016 Malibu Production Begins

By | 2016 Malibu, Model News | No Comments

After 5 decades, popular Chevrolet model now sold in more than 25 markets around the world

As the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu begins its production in Kansas City, Kan., the iconic vehicle for Chevrolet rolled off the assembly line for the 10 millionth time. Since its introduction in 1964, the Malibu has reached eight figures in production around the world.

The U.S., Korea and China comprise the three biggest markets for the sedan, accounting for 90 percent of current Malibu sales. The Malibu is becoming a popular car on a global scale as Chevrolet sells it in more than 25 markets around the world.

“Some people are buying their very first Malibu today and others may have driven a Malibu from a different generation as their first car,” Alan Batey, global Chevrolet president, said. “It is a car that has resonated with customers for more than half a century.”

Chevrolet Malibu History

Space and efficiency were the names of the game for the Malibu in the early ‘60s. The newest Chevy vehicle, along with the Chevelle and 300 at that time, was named after the California city. The Malibu was one of the first mid-size vehicles called at that time “intermediate.”

JBC-78 Malibu Owners ManualThese three vehicles sold more than 370,000 in their first years. Within five years, they already surpassed the half a million mark. There was even a muscle car version of the Malibu — the Malibu SS.

When the Malibu first hit the scene in ’64, the most common form of customer service was the owners manual and maybe a trip to the dealer. Now, the ninth-generation Chevrolet Malibu customers can contact their dealer, Chevrolet service, support and more 24/7 thanks to email, social media and more.

Latest Malibu lighter, more efficient

The 2016 Malibu is lighter and longer than the 2015 model year, and the standard 1.5-liter turbo powertrain is projected to offer 37 mpg on the highway. An available hybrid option works off the current Volt format and is expected to offer 47 mpg combined.

For fifty-one years, Chevrolet has offered a quality sedan — formerly a coupe, convertible and wagon — to families around the U.S.A. and the world. Fans of this classic nameplate can check out the latest ones in our inventory at Jim Butler Chevrolet in Fenton, MO, the No. 1 Chevy dealer in Missouri.

Pedestrian Avoidance Safety Technology Planned for 2016 Malibu

By | 2016 Malibu | No Comments

Latest active safety feature uses only camera and software to help keep overall costs down on new Chevy

Technological features once found on only luxury vehicles are making their way to more and more brands, and the latest addition the 2016 Chevy Malibu strengthens the brand’s active safety features.

JBC 2016 Malibu Pedestrian Avoidance safetyThe 2016 Malibu’s Pedestrian Avoidance System helps works to detect any pedestrians that may run out in front of the Malibu. The new software, when detecting a potential collision, can alert “the driver and, if necessary, automatically applies the brakes to help reduce the collision’s severity or avoid the collision” according to General Motors.

What sets the Pedestrian Avoidance technology apart from other active safety features on the redesigned Malibu is how it works. Instead of using sensors or radars, it utilizes only a camera and the software. The camera mounted next to the rearview camera to help with Lane Keep Assist is used for Pedestrian Avoidance. This, in turn, will help to keep the overall costs down as it uses current technology already available with an updated code.

“The camera technology allows us to put it on more vehicles,” John Capp, GM’s director of global vehicle safety, said to AutoNews. “We can offer technologies that … you had to step up to a radar package that maybe not all customers would want.”

Goals for the technology are the format it to detect speedy cyclists as well. Other available crash avoidance technology for 2016 Chevrolet models include Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Forward Collision Alert. General Motors has been setting up special tracks at their testing facility to improve the active safety features for 2016 Chevys.
